Alternatives For Leukemia

I've had to update our Alternative Cancer Therapy section with two overlooked and somewhat new therapies for leukemia. I say I had to do this because one of our friends who visits AOL's Cancer Support chat room has had a reoccurrence of her leukemia. Her doctors tell her that the only option she has is a bone marrow transplant.

Now, I am not about to knock the success of BMTs. When they are successful, they work miracles. But if they are not successful, they are deadly. It is like playing Russian Roulette.

This person came to me just as I had received a response to my last newsletter. The response was from someone who wanted to be removed from my mailing list. She said that she really liked what I was doing, but all these new therapies just made her sadder over the loss of her son due to complications in a BMT. She told me she wished she'd had other options at the time, but was told there were none.

There are always options. Your doctors don't know about them and the pharmaceutical industry doesn't want you or your doctors to ever know about them.

I have personally lost seven friends here in 5 yrs due to botched BMTs. Let's face it, you're playing the odds. I would prefer you try all alternatives first before resorting to playing these odds.

So, in the Alternative Cancer Therapies, last week I added Indirubin for leukemia and today I've added Enzyme Therapy. Both of these have seen some good success rates. The nice thing is, if they don't work, they won't kill you.

And now a word from our sponsor.....

Another Weapon In Our Battle Against Cancer

Vitamin E is one of the antioxidants touted to help prevent and reverse cancer. Recent studies seem to point to Tocotrienol, a component of vitamin E to be very potent in fighting cancer. In 1999 Clinical Biochemistry reported that the activities of tocotrienol to be far superior to alpha-tocopherol.

What many don't seem to know (that includes your physician who, statistically speaking, knows nothing about vitamins) is that vitamins are complexes. Vitamin C is not just ascorbic acid; in nature it is found with bioflavanoids and copper. If you read the label of a vitamin E product, it will most likely contain only alpha-tocopherol, when vitamin E is actually mixed tocopherols and tocotrienols, selenium, and other chemicals.

When I read that this part of something does this or that, I get a bit upset because the part is not equivalent to the whole. In Natural Medicine we try not to take supplements. The beta carotene from a carrot is less than that of a pill, but it is more potent because of the synergy (combined effort being greater than the parts) involved in all the things found in that carrot working together.

However, two recent studies (reported in Nutr Cancer 33(1): 26-32, 1999 and Lipids 33(5): 461-9), 1998) show that tocotrienol induced cellular death (apoptosis) in breast cancer cells.

Since vitamin manufacturers read these reports, look for tocotrienol products popping up all over soon at your health food stores.

The above is copied right from the Alternative Cancer Therapies article.
In this same article, we've added Mushrooms. They not only battle cancer
they battle the damage done by chemotherapy.

Cardiovascular Wellness

Is Your Heart Medication Causing You Heart Disease?

For years we've known that medications can interfere with the absorption of certain vitamins and minerals. In fact, it was theorized years ago that certain medications might even help to deplete vitamins and minerals. Well, there's a new book out that every one of you should order immediately. It is called, Drug-induced Nutrient Depletion Handbook. Call 800.837.5394. The cost is $34.95. This book is a must, especially if you are on one or two medications.

From this book we discovered that hypertension drugs (drugs to lower blood pressure) deplete vitamins B6, B1, C, Magnesium, Calcium, Potassium, Zinc and Coenzyme Q10. Except for Zinc (which is needed by your immune system) all of these vitamins and minerals are needed for a healthy heart. Go figger!

I'm sure you've all heard that Coenzyme Q10 is great for the heart. CoQ10, to make a long story short, supplies energy at the cellular level. Your heart, being the only muscle in your body that doesn't take coffee breaks needs a lot of energy all the time. Noting the widespread use of drugs that deplete CoQ10, some researchers feel there's no doubt whatsoever why CHF (congestive heart failure) which was rare 40 years ago, is now an epidemic. Consider also that CHF can be directly related to B vitamin deficiencies, and from the above information, can you pick out the illogic leading to heart disease?

Dangers Of Aspirin

Bad science and profit motive is responsible for the spate of television advertising telling us that aspirin can save you from a heart attack. These studies have more holes than my helicopter I was shot down in 30 yrs ago.

First off, we do not get heart attacks because we do not have enough aspirin in our blood stream. We get heart attacks because we lack proper nutrition.

The aspirin studies were done using "buffered" aspirin. When plain aspirin was used, the results were not the same; plain aspirin is nearly as worthless as shoe polish in preventing heart attacks especially when compared to the buffered asprin studies and when considering the side effects. One of the main ingredients in buffered aspirin is magnesium. We get heart attacks because we do not have enough magnesium in our blood stream. Magnesium dilates blood vessels, aids potassium absorption, acts as a natural blood thinner, and keeps your blood cells from clumping together causing thrombosis (clotting).

Autopsies of people who've died from heart attacks show that their bodies are lacking in magnesium, not aspirin.

Daily aspirin use is dangerous. Their own studies proved the dangers of aspirin use. Strokes due to hemorrhaging (hemorrhagic strokes) were up significantly in all studies.

Randomized clinical trials testing aspirin in 5011 elderly people, 58% of whom were women, mean age 72 years, followed for a mean of 4.2 years, showed that use of aspirin caused a 4-fold increase in hemorrhagic stroke (P=0.003) and a 1.6- to 1.8-fold increase in ischemic stroke. [R. A. Kronmal et al., Stroke 29, 887-894 (1998)]

All the studies showed increases in gastrointestinal disorders and allergic reactions. Using aspirin over a long period of time can lead to internal bleeding, stomach ulcers, kidney dysfunction, and death.

From the Associated Press in 1999, death by analgesics (over the counter pain killers such as aspirin and NSAIDs [nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs]) is the 15th most common cause of death in America. The silent epidemic, the author called it.

And then there is Reye's syndrome and allergic reactions to aspirin:. 1,600 children die each year from allergic reactions to aspirin.

From the World Chiropractic Alliance (Feb 1999) we get:

Is there any doubt that aspirin is a drug? It has its place in medicine, but not in long term use. Some alternative physicians are recommending a smaller dosage to avoid the side effects. However, this doesn't work either.

If you want to prevent heart attacks, eat right. When you can't do that, then it's magnesium your body needs, not aspirin. And the next time you need an aspirin, try willow bark tea. It is called "Nature's Aspirin."

Women on estrogen have a 50%
greater chance of getting
lung cancer than women who
are not on estrogen.

Your Right To Health Care

In the previous newsletter/update we told you about a bill your congress person should support that would allow you access to treatments that have yet to pass the FDA's examination. Well, I got a response from Ann Fonfa who began the ANNIEAPPLESEEDPROJECT (you must visit her site, this woman is a soldier fighting for everyone's right to access the health care they need) telling me of the latest hearings (which she attended and at which she spoke) by the FDA concerning the use of untested therapies. It seems there are ways to get these therapies, though the hoops you must jump through and paperwork you will be buried in could put you off. Here is part of our communication:

Has the pharmaceutical industry produced a cancer drug to date that isn't toxic? I wrote to her.

Ann's response: I agree. I sat in and actually spoke at an FDA meeting on Dietary Supplements in which they were oh so concerned about toxicity and safe use.

When I stood up to speak I laughed--I mean is there an approved cancer therapy that is NOT way toxic? Same questions you ask. It is like a joke--too bad it bounces back on us.

The thing to know here is that there are people fighting for your right to any therapy that can help you.

Now the really spooky thing is this CODEX business. I sent you links to their sites. On the outside this organization looks like it wants to protect us from contaminated foods, etc. In reality, they want to regulate the use of vitamins and minerals and supplements and put them under the control of agencies like the FDA. In Germany, they've succeeded in re-classifying an amount of vitamin C over 400 mg as a drug. Thus you can get it only with a doctor's prescription and most doctors won't prescribe it. You don't need vitamins, you need drugs, according to what they've learned in medical school.

Well, here is something from the International Advocates For Health Freedom (an organization that might be filled with the right kind of nutz to get something accomplished):

Codex Alimentarius is one of the international regulatory bodies that are actively engaged in an effort to make regulations for vitamin and mineral supplements and from discussions in the Codex Committee for Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses, it appears that these Codex rules might restrict both dosages of vitamins and minerals to low levels, as well as restrict ingredients to a short list of pharmaceutically approved substances.

Through the mechanism of trade sanctions, such Codex regulations may well endanger your future access to food supplements within the preventive/therapeutic range, that is today guaranteed under U.S. law.

International Advocates for Health Freedom (http://www.iahf.com) is asking Congressman Dan Burton to hold Congressional oversight hearings on the U.S. administration's participation in the Codex process. IAHF also has a mailing list, with up to date information on Codex and what to do to help preserve your freedom of choice. You can subscribe going to the IAHF website at the above address.

Gary Null, the famous health writer and host of a popular syndicated radio program in New York has joined forces with IAHF and they are now asking U.S. consumers to sign a petition demanding congressional oversight hearings be held.

You may find links to that petition at the site of Gary Null (http://www.garynull.com) or at the site of IAHF (http://www.iahf.com).

If you have any questions about the Codex situation and the way it might affect you in the U.S., you may contact the president of IAHF, John Hammell, directly at [email protected].

A direct link to the petition, and I ask you ALL to go sign it (this is about freedom) is: http://www.laleva.org/petizione/english/petitioneng.html

A Short Note On Petitions

If you receive a petition in the mail, you might as well toss it. It is meaningless. You sign it and send twenty copies to twenty friends and poof, you have twenty duplicates of your own signature.

For a petition to mean anything in the world wide web, it has to be located at a site that takes your name and city (and perhaps some other information) and stores this information in their database. Only these petitions mean anything to the people to whom they are served.

So, don't waste your time or your friends' time by passing on email petitions. Just ignore them.

Kidney Stones

[Author's Note: I got some mail back from one of my updates stating: "I thought these updates were just about cancer. "

Cancer is a systemic disease, a dis-ease of the entire system. It doesn't matter if you have cancer of the breast or the prostate or the lungs, there is something terribly wrong with your entire system. Your immune system has been overburdened and hasn't been able to detect and destroy incipient (beginning) cancer cells.

A while back, I did a detox and a fast and wrote a journal to allow those of you who were interested to follow my progress. A few of you wrote and asked me why I was doing this since I seemed to be in perfect health. Not really. I suffer from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Yes, this is considered a mental disorder (one reason I fit in so well in Cancer Support with Mrs Live and all the other nutz :) but it is a disorder that affects my immune system. No matter how much I care for myself with organic foods and vitamins and superfoods and supplements, I am ripe for an immune system breakdown, because that is what happens to people with this disorder. Stress kills. At the time of my fast and detox, I had a tumor growing on my finger. A few doctors from the VA looked at it. They wanted to do a biopsy (which I will not allow because biopsies spread cancer) and when I said "No" they all agreed to "just watch it" for a while. After my fast and after I got on some MGN-3 and began a rigorous daily routine of qigong, one day I noticed that it was gone. The tumor was gone. I can still feel something, but no physician can feel anything (heck, it's not his finger). My point being here, take care of the entire system, and you will take care of your cancer.

Yes, this newsletter, these updates are about cancer. But since the entire system is screwy, these updates are about the entire system. This little piece on Kidney Stones is tossed in because 1. someone asked me about them, and 2. I'm sure you've heard me talk about the dangers of dehydration. ]

The causes of kidney stones are nutritional. If your diet lacks vitamin B6 and Magnesium, you are a candidate for kidney stones. Other studies I've seen go on to list those foods you have to avoid if your stones are oxalate or formed by uric acid. Since .000000001% of the population is willing to change their diets to avoid illness, I'm not even going to tell you which foods to avoid. They are probably your favorites.

Instead, I will tell you that dehydration is the largest (or main) cause of kidney stones. Increase your water and you can flush out incipient (beginning) stones.

What you don't know is that dehydration is epidemic in America. For us oldsters, after the age of 30 or so, we lose our ability to tell if we are dehydrated. Youngsters, who in America drink can after can of soda pop (with caffeine) to wash down extra salty foods, end up dehydrated and full at the same time. For every 8 oz drink with either alcohol or caffeine in it, you must drink 16 oz of water. That is the rule. Caffeine and alcohol dehydrate you.

The clearer your urine the less dehydrated you are. The darker your urine, the more dehydrated you are.

Increasing your intake of water with a touch of lemon (10 8oz glasses per day) will stop the formation of stones.

Now, for those of you with stones, here is one more reason to not cut down the rainforest. An herb that grows only in the rainforest has been tested in over 100 case studies and has been found to be 94% successful in eliminating stones. It is called "chanca piedra" and you can order a supply from Raintree Nutrition at 800.780.5902. It is suggested you take thirty drops twice per day for active stones.

From www.healthfree.com, you can order a great kidney tea and some gravel root. This combination too has been known to clear up kidney stones, but you might have to drink it daily for a month or two or three (my first experience with acupressure was to relieve a kidney stone; I drank the tea and worked on certain points and eventually it passed).

You also have ESWL (extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy) that sends shockwaves through your body to break the stones into sand. The side effects are a bruised and battered body (you'll feel it the next day) and blood in your urine for a few days.

Another alternative is IV chelation therapy using EDTA, Magnesium, and B vitamins. For a list of physicians using EDTA chelation therapy in your area, visit the American College for Advancement in Medicine's web site at www.acam.org

Online Friends

We welcome Kassie to our online friends pages (page 16). Come see her and her kitten.

I know a lot of people visiting the room know nothing about Online Friends, and since I've not been in the room (I have this little project going) I'd like to ask all of you who do visit the chat room to tell people about Online Friends and send them links. In fact, you can send them this update and my address so they may receive it too. Everytime I go into the room my mailing list grows, so I know people want to receive these little newsletters.

So...someone will have to take my place while I'm busy writing about cardiovascular care, and help me get more people on this mailing list so we can kick some more cancer's butt!

Truth is Stranger than Fiction

A company trying to continue its five-year perfect safety record showed its workers a film aimed at encouraging the use of safety goggles on the job. According to Industrial Machinery News, the film's depiction of gory industrial accidents was so graphic that twenty-five workers suffered minor injuries in their rush to leave the screening room. Thirteen others fainted, and one man required seven stitches after he cut his head falling off a chair while watching the film.

Bless You All,
